The Terry Badlands Wilderness Study Area is the perfect place to find and study a variety of native birds. The best viewing season is May through October. Terry Badlands Wilderness Study Area is located three miles northwest of Terry, north of the Yellowstone River. Access to the scenic overlook is by a westbound dirt road directly off “The Big Sky Backcountry Byway” Highway 235 or by way of the Calypso trail.

Species: Downy and Hairy Woodpecker, Cliff Swallow, Blue Jay, Steller’s Jay, Mountain Bluebird, Black-capped Chickadee, White-breasted Nuthatch, Common Yellowthroat, Yellow-breasted Chat, Spotted Towhee, American Goldfinch and Lark Sparrow, Bald and Golden Eagle, Prairie falcon, Cooper’s Hawk, American Kestrel, Red-tailed Hawk, Turkey Vulture, Burrowing Owl, Long-eared Owl, Great Horned Owl.
